Week 9-End of 3rd Quarter

Week 9 Summary-End of 3rd Quarter

I certainly hope WHS Families had a restful and relaxing spring break.  As much as I enjoyed having time to spread bark and spend time with my family, it was good to be back in the building this week.

Congratulations Team 2471-The Robotics Team has done it again....VICTORY!  Team Mean Machine won the Spokane Regional competition over spring break.  This is the second victory for the 3-school team from Washougal, Camas and Hockinson.  Congratulations to all participants and mentors and good luck at the World Championships April 24-27.

WHS Jazz Band-Congratulations to the WHS Jazz Band on their 2nd place finish at the University of Portland Jazz Festival on Thursday!  This group has worked very hard this year and they have come a very long way.  They will be giving a concert this coming Thursday, April 18 at 7 pm in the Washburn Performing Arts Center-we would love to see you there!

Conference Week and Parent Workshops-The last three days prior to spring break were earlier release days.  This time was dedicated to parent-teacher conferences.   During our evening session on Thursday, we offered several parent workshops providing information about a variety of topics.  We shared information that we felt would help parents support their student(s).  Although the workshops were not well attended, we believe this is a very good use of conference time. We are hopeful that the next time we organize workshops more parents and/or guardians will have attend.

Running Start-Sophomores and juniors that have qualified for Running Start for fall of 2013 will be invited to a Running Start meeting on Wednesday, May 8, during 3rd period to explain all the important paperwork, registration information, and course equivalencies for Running Start. Please attend this meeting if you have qualified for Running Start! You will not meet with your counselor until after this meeting.

Senior Award’s Night Slide Show-Parents and/or Seniors please send a maximum of five (5) pictures to ASB advisor, Jim Reed, at jim.reed@washougalsd.org . Please send as soon as possible. The pictures can range from baby, elementary, middle, high school or just hanging out with friends. We want everyone to be included as this is one of the highlights during Senior Tea on June 13th at 6:30 pm.

End of 3rd Quarter-Friday is the last day of 3rd quarter.  Teachers will have next week to complete grades and then we will be providing progress reports.  These grades will not be transcripted, but they do represent how students are doing in all classes.

Math Collection of Evidence-We received some very good news about our Collections of Evidence that were submitted in February.  We had a high success rate with all of the collections that were submitted.  A Collection of Evidence is an alternative way to meet standard on the state assessments, which are a graduation requirement.  If you are interested in learning more about the Collection of Evidence or the graduation requirements please visit the following websites:

Prom 2013- Prom night is a very special evening for many people.  Prom’s special purposes, however, are to provide an enjoyable evening of dining, entertainment and dancing for all who attend. To accomplish these purposes we have a list of expectations. Parents, we are asking for your support to make this evening a memorable one for your son or daughter. We thank you for your help!
·      This year’s prom is located at the Elysium Ballroom located at 918 SW Yamhill St. 5th floor in Portland.

·      The last day to purchase the $25 ticket is April 19th.
·      Prom is a formal affair. Dress should be both formal and appropriate.
·      Females: Evening gowns and cocktail dresses – there must be an acceptable degree of modesty.

·      Administration reserves the right to refuse entry or remove students and/or guests not in compliance with any of the above policies.
·      All school rules apply. Prom is an official Washougal High School event.

2013-14 Master Schedule-We are now moving to the next step in our master schedule building process which involves creating individual sections and determining which classes we will be offering next year.  We may be talking with your student if it involves a decision about a class that may not be offered and what their options are.  Our goal is always to create a schedule that meets the needs of our students.

PLC Early Release-Wednesday, April 17 is a PLC Early Release. All students will be released at 11:25 am.  Students will see all of their teachers on that day, but the periods are shorter.  The staff will be working on a variety of things in the afternoon including:
  • Working in course-alike teams
  • Training regarding the new evaluation system (TPEP) for all teachers
  • Working on next year’s master schedule
